Arkansas Doctor, Clinic Cleared in Malpractice Suit

A medical malpractice lawsuit against a Washington County women's clinic over the death of a woman in 2005 is to continue in Washington County District Court in Fayetteville.
KFSM reports that testimony is to resume Monday in the lawsuit by the family of Leah Bokermann against Parkhill Clinic for Women in Johnson and Dr. Robert Hix over Bokermann's Aug. 13, 2005, death
Bokermann died two weeks after giving birth and the family alleges she had high blood pressure and was not given a physical exam before being released. Bokermann fell into a coma two days after her release and was taken to Washington Regional Medical Center and later to a Springfield, Mo., hospital where she died.
Hix says Bokermann's vital signs were stable at the time of her release and he and the clinic deny any wrongdoing.

A northwest Arkansas doctor and a women's clinic have been cleared in a medical malpractice lawsuit.
A Washington County District Court Jury found Dr. Robert Hix and Parkhill Clinic for Women were cleared in the 2005 death of 26-year-old Leah Bokermann two weeks after she gave birth.
The lawsuit claimed Bokermann died of a pregnancy-related condition in which high blood pressure and protein build up in the body and that Hix failed to appropriately monitor her.
Attorneys for Hix said the care provided was "entirely appropriate.''
Attorney Tab Turner for Bokermann's family told the Northwest Arkansas Times that the family is disappointed but respects the jury's decision. The family has one month to file an appeal.
